How Positive Thinking Can Help Heart Patients

Positive thinking of survival is a cause of better results for heart patients:

Well, just like it?s said ?your attitude affects your latitude?

According to a new study when a well hospitalized patient is diagnosed suffering from coronary artery disease and is positive about his recovery is found out to have less chances to die earlier and have better physical functioning over the passing years of age.

Earlier studies have found that the hope and the positive thought of the heart patient to gain recovery faster influences his physical functioning and his return to work. But this study shows how the patient beliefs affect the health of the patient over the long term.

Long live with positive thinking:

The Duke University Medical Centre monitored about 2,818 heart patients suffering from the coronary artery disease after providing them coronary angiography in which the blood flow is evaluated in the coronary arteries of the heart. Through this research they found out that the patient?s beliefs and thoughts are how much important for his disease recovery and its affects and how it helps to perform normal physical activities in his life.

These patients also went through a survey in which they were asked about there future lifestyle. In this survey they found many of the patients left hopes of recovery and many were with there positive outlook of recovery.

An author John Barefoot, who is a PhD, worked with his team on the features of disease severity and health history, symptoms of depression, social support, age, sex, education and the income of the patient. The death rate of the heart patients with great expectations and hopes is 31.8 deaths per 100 patients and the people with the lowest expectations have a death rate of 46.2 per 100 patients.

Over the 15-year of study illustrates that the patients with high expectations and hopes are 17% less likely to die before age. As there is a relation between the depression and the increasing death rates, Barefoot says, ?These findings demonstrate the magnitude of the impact of the patient expectations on the recovery process above and beyond depression and other psychological and social factors?. So the people suffering from depression or any psychological problem can die earlier due to the lowest expectations.

Effects of Expectations:

As we have seen earlier the results due to the hopes as well as the hopeless patients, Barefoot and his colleagues give two of the possible reasons to look upon how the expectations effect the patients age. Firstly come the patients those are lively and optimistic, will attentively follow the steps of the treatment plan rather than focusing on the emotion stresses or hopelessness which will effect their health in the other way which leads to death.

Other risks of the negative thinking can affect the whole body and will create tension and stress which may also cause cardiac events and damaging of the body.

Realism:

Robert Gramling, an editorial, MD, who is affiliated with the University of Rochester, advised the doctors to check out the emotions as well as the data before advising the patient to be hopeful or distrust of recovery. The doctors say that emotional recovery is opposite to reality so he affirms the importance of the both. He says that both the emotion and the medical recovery are important.
